Leadership Circle

The “Leadership Circle” is a group of academics and activists who will help spread the word about the film & fundraising campaign. The Leadership Circle will supplement the work of the Project Advisors and lend their expertise to shaping the film’s national impact. The Circle includes:

Harry Brod, PhD, is widely recognized as a founding figure of the field of men’s studies, also known as masculinity studies, which applies theories and concepts derived from women’s studies to examine men and masculinities, and as a spokesperson for the profeminist men’s movement. He is also on the Board of Directors of the American Men’s Studies Association. (Adapted from Brod’s website)

Robert Heasley, PhD, is the President of the Board of Directors of the American Men’s Studies Association. He is a professor of Sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania where he teaches courses in the area of sexuality, men and masculinities, and social theory. He also has a private practice as a therapist. He is coordinator of a photo-narrative project on men’s friendships documenting the images and stories of males who embrace feminism and pursue emotionally intimate and physically close relationships with other men, and in the process challenge the tradition of homophobia in American culture. Michael Kimmel, PhD, is among the leading researchers and writers on men and masculinity in the world today. The author or editor of more than twenty volumes, his books include Changing Men: New Directions in Research on Men and Masculinity (1987),The Politics of Manhood (1996), The History of Men (2005), Guyland (2008) and most recently The Guy’s Guide to Feminism. His documentary history, Against the Tide: Pro-Feminist Men in the United States, 1776-1990, chronicled men who supported women’s equality since the founding of the country.
